Bharat Jyoti Award 2006

Dr. Shailendra Kumar given “Bharat Jyoti Award"
Dr.Shailendra Kumar, Reader and former Head of Department of Library and Information Science, University of Delhi, has been given “Bharat Jyoti Award” for meritorious services, outstanding performance and remarkable role in the Library and Information Science field for this year.
The award along with Certificate of Excellence, was presented to Dr. Kumar by Dr. Raghvir Singh Kalyan member of Haryana Assembly and former Governor of Tamil Nadu, Bhisham Narayan Singh, during a glittering function at New Delhi. The award is given to selected extraordinary men and women from science, technology, education, industry, fine arts, politics and social work, who have done something special for their country and attained excellence in their respective fields of work.
Those who have received the award so far, include late Mother Teresa, former vice-president B. D. Jatti, Governor Justice M. Fathima Beevi, Justice P. N. Bhagwati, R. S. Sarkaria, H. R. Khanna, Election Commissioner G. V. G. Krishnamurthy, industrialist Vijay Mallya, film stars Sunil Dutt, Dev Anand, Pran, cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, Sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Prof.C.P Govila, Vice Chancellor of U.P. King George’s University of Dental Sciences, Lucknow, Prof. S. Jayachandran, IIT(M), Prof B. Guha, IIT(M), Prof. B. Madhusoodana Kurup, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Prof. Deepak Prabhakar Nandedkar, IIT(B) and others.
Dr. Shailendra Kumar has pioneered Video-Book, Scientometric studies for Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, teaching in information science in distance and regular mode, library automation and several research papers was selected by Indian International Friendship Society, New Delhi, a leading NGO, for this year’s ‘Bharat Jyoti Award’ in the LIS field on account of his information literary works.
He stressed on the number of information centres with the growth of the country in the seminar on “Economic Growth and National Integration” on this occasion. The seminar was also attended by the prominent people of the society.
